China Iron and Steel Research Institute Group Co., Ltd. was incorporated on 27 March 2000 and became a wholly state-owned company under the direct management of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council following its restructuring in May 2009, having consolidated the Central Iron and Steel Research Institute (established in 1952) and the Metallurgical Automation Research and Design Institute (established in 1973) in December 2006. The company is the largest comprehensive research, development and high-technology industrialisation institution in China's metallurgy sector and a national R&D base for metallic new materials and metallurgical analysis and testing, engaged in new-material, new-process and new-technology development, metallurgical and mechanical-electronic equipment, environmental and energy technologies, rare and rare-earth metals, and metallurgical analysis and testing instruments, and controls four listed subsidiaries including Advanced Technology & Materials (000969.SZ) and Gaona Aero Material (300034.SZ).
